The Worms

After putting it off for a little over a week, I finally caved in and clicked the "Show $EV Adjusted" box in Hold'em Manager.

And the results were glorious.

During this stretch I had convinced myself I was running good but as it turns out, I ran below expectation by a significant amount.  I guess that might bother some grinders, but I'm ecstatic that during a patch of negative variance I was still making $45/hr before rakeback.  And that's just 9-max.

It's only natural to think that not looking at the red line was the impetus for my success.  Perhaps I was more focused on making the correct play instead of fretting about my all-in equity.  But there were several variables at play here other than my decision to avoid Hold'em Manager, including the change in my sleep schedule and standard, run of the mill variance.  Correlation is not causation.

I'm still on that early-bird schedule and it's allowed me to get a whole bunch of worms.  One of my favorite SNG variants, 180-mans, has decent traffic in the morning so I've been able to mix a few in with my 9-man sets.  I've heard rumblings that these games are tougher than they used to be, but if anything my results show the opposite.

That said, it is admittedly a teeny tiny sample and I'm surely running ridiculously hot.  Yesterday I played eight games and not only did I final table half of them, but finished in the top three of each.

For the rest of May, I've set myself two goals, one of which seems to be much easier than the other.

1) $5,000 profit in Hypers (Currently: ~$4200)
2) $10,000 profit in all SNGs/MTTs (Currently ~$6700)

Profits from bonuses/rakeback are not included, meaning I'm only counting the money won and lost at the tables.  I've had five figure months before (including this one assuming I don't go on the worst downswing of all-time) but I can't recall if I've ever made that much before factoring in all of the other stuff, like aforementioned bonuses, coaching, staking, etc.  Obviously I'll have to continue putting in the hours but it should make for a fun end of the month sweat.  Lego!
