The New Goals

Pretty sure I would have composed this entry last night if I had shipped either goal, but I fell short and decided to avoid the blog until the following day.

[ ] Writing about failing is fun

Obviously I'd much rather write about how I ran well, made a decent chunk of money, and managed to eclipse my goals.  Clicking 'publish' would allow me to share that accomplishment with the world and instead, I was unlucky in May to the tune of $2,100 and have to share defeat.  Looking at it that way is an overly negative, "glass half empty" approach.  Remember I'm the one who set a challenge based on profit and not something I had more control over, such as the number of games played, hours grinded, or even equity won.

But the glass isn't half empty.  It's not half full either.  It's a full damn glass.  Despite not reaching $5k profit preRB in Hypers or $10k profit from the tables, it's silly to call this month a failure as it was one of my most lucrative months to date; I made $50/hr (preRB) in EV in STTs, $2.2k in MTTs/180s, and considerably more from the other stuff.

If I remember correctly, it was around 5k games when I set those goals.  Downswing engage!
The drastic changes I made to 'normalize' my sleep schedule have not only resulted in positive outcomes at the tables ($60 EV/hr preRB) but from a health and happiness standpoint, I feel much better.  Playing online poker for a living already isolates you and my previous schedule was making it worse.  Now I have more time for activities that while seemingly unrelated to poker, are basically the fruits of that labor.

I planned on taking the day off and chose to sip my morning coffee poolside, enjoying the blue skies much more than the bright glow of my monitor.  But after finishing up, I wanted to play and for that reason alone, I changed course and clocked in.

Looking forward to June, my goals are much less profit centric and more about volume/lifestyle:
  • 7000 Hypers
  • 500 180s/MTTs
  • Keep the schedule
  • Eat well, exercise regularly

  3. Hey Barone, wanted to see how many hypers should I play or if you can share how many do you have running at a time.

I have started playing some and play like 60 in an hour. with 20 on at a time. Its at 3.5 level.

What would be ur take on when shall I raise the stakes. Is 3.5 going to be different than 7 or 15 ?

    Deucesofclub is my id.

  4. @Tanuccio/Luis: It's mostly a matter of personal preference, but I can expand on that if you'd like. It's certainly a different dynamic being surrounded by cash game players as opposed to SNG guys...

@Deuces: I try to keep 20-24 tables running continuously, during non-peak I get 55-60 games in an hour and during peak hours it's between 70 and 80. Haven't played any $3.50s but I imagine they're waaaayyyyyyyyyy softer than $7s/$15s.
