The Hypocrite

Earlier tonight, I made the final table of the $1R 3xTurbo and was hoping to take down the $7.4k first place prize. Throughout the day I loaded 180s/low stakes MTTs and despite only having a few min cashes to show for my efforts, I didn't feel too bad. The thought of being stuck $300 or so made me shrug my shoulders. Then I lost AK to A8, finishing 9th for $378, and...

Within a minute I was out the door, on my way to the gym, doing my best to avoid expressing any disappointment. I've mocked friends of mine for physical outbursts and was oh so close to arriving in hypocrite-town, population me.

How did I feel? Crushed. Physically ill. Angry. I had time to briefly digest my thoughts in between sets and realized how silly it was for me to feel such a way. Yeah, I got unlucky. But I was incredibly lucky to even be in that situation.

With 65 left, I attempted to squeeze with 55 and while I succeeded in making the original raiser fold, I ended up all-in against 66 only to be saved by a 5 on the turn.

With 40 left, I raise-called with A9 BvB for 1/2 my stack (11 effective) and ran into AJ but a 9 peeled off on the flop and I held.

So while I wasn't happy about $380, it feels considerably better than the handful of $20 bills I'd have if I didn't draw out in those earlier hands.

It truly is all about perspective. I mean, the worst thing that happened to me today was that I didn't win $7,000? That's not too bad. Obviously I'd love to have that money but there are so many other things in life wayyyyyyyyyyyy more important than a few grand.

On that note, I think now's a good time to announce that I'll be moving back to California at the end of February. It's only temporary (through June) but it'll allow me to be around friends/family for a few months before I once again leave the U.S. to play poker online. The tentative plan is to move to Thailand with my old roommate, N0Bigdeal but I won't rule out the possibility of going to Cabo or even returning to downtown Vancouver.

Wow a few months without dodging Abarone68 every day will be heaven but you will be missed.
What would you charge to put me up for a couple of weeks so I can learn from the greatest. Might help with relocation costs?

In Thailand?

Preliminary discussions between Ben (N0Bigdeal) and I are already taking place, as we hope to open our own coaching/training site for all types of SNGs. We'd cover all expenses (food, lodging, instruction, etc) except the plane ticket.

Not sure on the exact cost yet, but I'll have a better idea in the coming weeks.

I am surprised you have not before, seems to be a no brainer progression and money wise but you probably have lots of other stuff on the go too.

Be sure to let me know when you finalise details etc
