The Streak

Ever since I started playing poker, I've always been asked the same question.

"You make money?"

Yep.

"Consistently?"

Yep. Never had a losing month.

That's right. I have made money every single month since I ventured into online poker. That streak even includes the beginning months, where I had no idea what I was doing. And the months where I played sporadically because of school, work, women, life, etc getting in the way. But now, that streak is in jeopardy.

Today, July 16th, happens to be my first profitable day of the month. Granted, I took a few days off here and there because of an illness and a trip to Vegas (Poker-related blog to come later), but I've had a total of 10 losing days this month. And only now did I record my first winning day.

Losing takes a toll on your psyche. It makes me wonder if I've lost a step, so to speak. Or perhaps the games are infinitely tougher. Maybe I'll have to get a real, 9-5 job, behind some crummy desk like the rest of the world. The self doubt is constant, continuous, and quickly erodes the confidence that was built over my entire career. Think about that; I've played over 30,000 SNGs and the last 1,000 have been so abysmal that I'm calling everything into question. It's a sick, sick game.

I've still got 14 days left in the month to try and dig myself out of the hole. I plan on re-dedicating myself to putting in 100-150 games per day which means I'll hopefully put in 1500-2000 more games by the end of this month. It might not be enough to make some serious green, but at this point, I'll settle for not seeing red.

Don't sweat it man, you'll come back.

I also have never had a losing month, really. There was a couple of months in the beginning when I had no idea what i was doing, that I lost like $30 though. A couple of months ago I even turned a losing month into a winning month on the last day, you've got like 14 chances to do that.

That is just a normal month for me.
